Hydro Demolition Case Studies

Swanson Dock East Hydro Demolition

Aqua Prep, a hydro-demolition specialist, was contracted for a three-year project at Swanson Dock East by McConnell Dowell and the Port of Melbourne Corporation. The project encompassed core hole hydro-demolition, deck relevelling, crane rail removal, and fender and bulk concrete removal.

Aqua Prep showcased innovation through two key developments:

  1. A custom core hole attachment for the Aqua Cutter 710 robot, designed to expose reinforcement bars by expanding core holes from 1000mm to 1600mm in diameter.
  2. An advanced water recycling system capable of processing 100,000 litres per shift, meeting strict environmental standards for water quality.

The project utilised a range of specialised equipment, including various Aqua Cutter models, a custom water treatment system, and Cappelotto vehicles, demonstrating Aqua Prep’s comprehensive approach to hydro-demolition tasks.

Kalgoorlie Gold Mine Hydro Demolition

KCGM engaged SRG and sub-contractor, Aqua Prep to perform hydro demolition on 250 square meters of mill deck to a depth of 300 mm.
The 10-day project utilised robotic technology to ensure precision and safety, overcoming challenges that had affected previous contractors. Key strategies included remote-operated hydro demolition and vacuum trucks to remove debris.

This approach successfully removed the concrete without damaging the underlying structure, prioritised worker safety, and minimised disruption to ongoing operations, demonstrating the effectiveness of advanced demolition techniques in complex industrial environments.
